RTP Network Services, Inc. performs large scale Network Management implementations of Smarts/InCharge and Micromuse Netcool, as well as network analysis, troubleshooting, and custom tool development. RTPNET has been in business since February 2002, and our senior consultants have over 20 years experience in the Information Technology field. We have performed consulting services for several Fortune 500 companies. Significant achievements:

  • Provide EMC/Smarts auditing and compliance - we ensure that your licensing matches the number and type of device licenses you have purchased, and audit your entire Smarts implementation. Detailed report of all license discrepancies and any anomalies discovered in the system, including upgrades available.
  • Developed integration between Smarts and Netcool, using Micromuse Netcool as the Manager of Managers, and feeding filtered Smarts information to Netcool.
  • Developed tools to perform mass changes on Vanguard routers and Cisco routers and switches (Cross platform password synchronization). Tools delete invalid settings and synchronize all device passwords, SNMP settings, and Daylight Savings Time settings across a 1700+ router network. Tool is adaptable to nearly any network device.
  • Network Management Analysis - resolve errors, reduce traps, consolidate consoles, reduce operator workload, and integrate with legacy systems
  • Developed process monitoring scripts for Unix processes. Generates notifications and escalates if process fails.
  • Developed tool to track DNS changes across the entire organization. Tool output includes DNS issues, DNS changes, New IPs Discovered, and Historical DNS lookups
  • Developed tool to track and report on switch port connections. Output includes switch listing with port connections by IP and MAC, as well as web-based lookup to accept IP or MAC address and output the physical switch connection. Full lookup of IP, MAC, and switch port connections take less than 1 second.
  • Added Conditional Suppress and Discard capability for SNMP traps sent to an EMC/Smarts Trap Receiver with a one line configuration parameter.
  • Added Chronic and Event Storm detection with Auto suppression/escalation of alarms
  • Zero downtime upgrades of the network management platform
  • Resolved partitions in EMC/Smarts, providing a better root cause analysis of network issues
  • Automatically resolve duplicate IP issues for devices with multiple interfaces and connections to a back end private network
  • Provide tools to allow telnet and ping across multiple managed domains - enables operators to ping any IP address (even duplicates) from a single workstation
  • Provided internal and external database lookup functions for event enrichment and conditional suppression.
  • Customized discovery to automatically unmanage known unreachable ips discovered on legitimate network devices.
  • Added context sensitive help to Notification Console
  • Force polling through common gateway (for routing), while receiving traps on separate gateway
  • Integration with custom ticketing system - autogenerates tickets, then displays actual ticket detail for alert
  • Integration of alarm with Frame Relay lookup database to automatically display detailed station information for selected alerts
  • Event suppresion for long-term issues that should not be seen by operators - daily report of any suppressed events, with summary by class - built into configuration file, so custom code is not required for each alarm.
  • Securing servers via ssh
  • Provided method of replicating configuration changes between servers
  • Enabled method to quickly suppress insignificant events and identify most likely root cause during major network outage, before EMC/Smarts has ability to determine root cause.
  • Analyzed network SNMP traffic, and provided solution which reduced traps by as much as 17,000 events every 24 hours
